What is said

00:00:00 — Pre-recorded birth announcement: John's baby has been born; comic riff that Sarah did the birthing and John only told her to push

  • ★★★ John announces in a pre-recorded video that his baby has been born; he jokes about his 'epic loins' before conceding Sarah did the birthing and he only reinforced the doctor's 'push'. (playful) — 00:00:01 · Sarah Urist Green
  • ★ John says Sarah actually had the baby, but he will help with diaper changes and many other tasks. — 00:00:28 · Sarah Urist Green

00:00:33 — Paternity leave: more time off than after a child of the brothers was born, away from vlogbrothers, writing and travel

  • ★★★ John says that when a child of the brothers was born he took only a couple of weeks off and made his first work trip when a child of the brothers was nine days old; this time he will take much more time away. — 00:00:33
  • ★★ John will step away not only from vlogbrothers but also from writing and travelling, and (jokingly) from his careers as amateur historian, trivia buff and semi-professional FIFA player. (playful) — 00:00:41 · Vlogbrothers

00:00:55 — Pre-made content continues during the leave: Crash Course US History, mental_floss, Swindon FIFA; thanks to the office staff

  • ★★★ During the leave there will be a Crash Course US History video every Thursday, a mental_floss video every Wednesday, and Swindon Town Swoodilypoopers FIFA games every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. — 00:00:55 · Crash Course, Swindon Town Swoodilypoopers
  • ★ John says this is possible because everyone in the office worked hard to get far ahead, and thanks Stan, Mark, Danica and Meredith. — 00:01:07

00:01:25 — Guest hosts will play John on Tuesdays: Hannah Hart, Grace Helbig, Craig (WheezyWaiter), Maureen Johnson, two Nerd Factor winners

  • ★★★ Every Tuesday there will still be a 'John video' on vlogbrothers, with John played by others: Hannah Hart, Grace Helbig, Craig (WheezyWaiter), Maureen Johnson and two Nerd Factor winners. — 00:01:25 · Vlogbrothers, Craig Benzine, Maureen Johnson

00:01:41 — Insert from after the birth: baby and mother healthy, parents exhausted

  • ★★★ In a short insert recorded after the birth, John reports that everything is good: baby and mother are healthy, and the parents are exhausted. — 00:01:45 · Sarah Urist Green

00:01:53 — 'I'm a psychic' joke; thanks to Nerdfighters for letting him step away; sign-off

  • ★★ John thanks Nerdfighters for making the community exist, for making it a wonderful part of his life, and for letting him briefly step away to be a full-time dad. — 00:01:58 · Nerdfighteria

Humor (significant)

  • Told his only role in the birth was telling Sarah to push, John sings a beer-commercial-style tribute to himself — 00:00:14 > «'Real American heroes, telling their partners when to push'»
  • Listing guest hosts, John names Craig by his YouTube name as if it were his surname — 00:01:30 > «Which is his real last name»
  • Back from the post-birth insert, present John makes a "prediction" about his exhausted future self — 00:01:53 > «That guys looks tired! I'm a psychic.»
