In November 2016 John asked would-be donors of over $1,000 to email him to join the Project for Awesome matching fund. By December a group of Nerdfighters with Hank and John offered $300,000 in matching donations, joined by donors from Partners In Health and Save the Children, and Hank later thanked the many larger donors.
