What is said

The parts of the video and what is said in each (★ — how much it matters to the video).

00:00:00 — Greeting outdoors: a 'boring' video with no helicopter ride with Bill Gates, no ice bucket, no sock puppets; a couple of new projects

  • ★ Hank calls this a boring video and goes outside to make it more interesting, saying he won't ride a helicopter with Bill Gates, dump ice water on his head or do sock puppets. (playful) — 00:00:01

00:00:19 — Secret project for John's birthday: everyone but John should go to llamajohn.com

  • ★★ Hank tells John he may not know about the first project and asks everyone else to go to llamajohn.com, because John's birthday is in a couple of days; he won't say what it is. — 00:00:19

00:00:32 — Hank's kidney song with Danny Weinkauf; invitation to make a music video

  • ★★ Hank wrote a song with Danny Weinkauf, the bassist of They Might Be Giants, about a kidney that lived in four different people. — 00:00:32
  • ★★ Hank invites viewers to make a music video for the kidney song. — 00:00:37

00:00:43 — Frankenstein MD: vlog adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein after the Jane Austen series

  • ★★★ After the Jane Austen adaptations, Hank's team is adapting Mary Shelley's Frankenstein as the vlog series Frankenstein MD, starring Victoria Frankenstein, who is not yet an MD. — 00:00:43
  • ★★ Hank is especially excited about Frankenstein MD because besides comedy, drama and quirkiness it has science. — 00:00:59

00:01:07 — Channel milestones: SciShow, Crash Course, SciShow Space subscriber counts

  • ★★ SciShow is about to reach two million subscribers, Crash Course just reached two million, and SciShow Space is about to reach 200,000; Hank thanks viewers. — 00:01:07 · SciShow, Crash Course, SciShow Space

00:01:22 — Interlude: ducks approach Hank expecting bread

00:01:49 — Online video workshop: writing on Wattpad, an unedited vlogbrothers video to edit, scripts for on-camera practice

  • ★★ Hank says the magic ingredients of good online video are good writing, good on-camera personality and good editing. — 00:01:54
  • ★★★ Hank sets up a framework to practise each skill: a writing workshop on Wattpad plus a video of him writing a script, an unedited vlogbrothers video to edit and share for critique, and scripts for on-camera practice. — 00:02:04 · Nerdfighter Online Video Workshop, Vlogbrothers
  • ★★ Hank hopes people will collaborate, critique each other and workshop their online video; he loves this world and wants people who care about it invited in. (hedged) — 00:02:36 · Nerdfighter Online Video Workshop

00:02:59 — Hank takes the ice bucket challenge and challenges SciShow hosts
