What is said

The parts of the video and what is said in each (★ — how much it matters to the video).

00:00:00 — VidCon is happening and Hank is unprepared: Perfect Strangers rehearsal, no hotel key, giant phone battery, no shoes, no badge

  • ★★ VidCon is happening and Hank, who didn't prepare properly, doesn't know how he'll make his video this week (week of 23 June 2014). — 00:00:01 · VidCon
  • ★★ Hank goes to start rehearsing with The Perfect Strangers. — 00:00:09
  • ★ Hank is without his hotel key, shoes or badge; without the badge he can't get into any of the places he needs to go. (playful) — 00:00:34

00:00:42 — Dave, Michael Gardner, Julie; expo hall setup; Rob; Perfect Strangers rehearsal and bean bag mountain; WheezyWaiter

  • ★★ Hank introduces Dave: their warehouse manager, VidCon merch manager, SciShow writer and a really good friend. — 00:00:43 · VidCon, SciShow
  • ★ Hank introduces Julie, who makes his life work ("most of the time," she adds). — 00:00:54

00:01:42 — Finding John and his lower-clearance badge; first look at the arena; backstage with Tyler Oakley and Troye; mic planning with Monica; John's moral of the story

  • ★★ Hank finds John and notes his own badge has higher clearance than John's. (playful) — 00:01:42 · John Green
  • ★★ Hank sees the VidCon stage and arena for the first time and finds it pretty cool. — 00:01:48 · VidCon
  • ★★ Backstage, Hank greets Tyler Oakley and Troye; they plan what mics they need, with Monica telling them what to do. — 00:02:09
  • ★ After rehearsal, John goes off to do an Ear Biscuit. — 00:02:26 · John Green
  • ★★ John: Asked by Hank for a moral of the story, John says Hank's ability to come up with new ideas and execute them continues to astonish him - in an overwhelmed way, not a good way. (playful) — 00:02:30 · Hank Green

00:02:44 — Expo hall, a Ze hug, the touring gear in one elevator, technical rehearsal and the industry presentation room

  • ★★ Hank goes to a technical rehearsal to test his computer and PowerPoint, and shows the big room where he gives his industry presentation; VidCon, for him, is mostly walking. — 00:02:56 · VidCon

00:03:09 — Welcome party for VidCon helpers: Natalie Tran, Katherine, Tim Tams; sign-off

  • ★★ At a welcome party for people who came to help at VidCon, Hank meets Natalie Tran, who gives him Tim Tams, and Katherine arrives. — 00:03:09 · Katherine Green, VidCon
  • ★★ Hank says all this was the day before VidCon started. — 00:03:40 · VidCon

Humor (significant)

  • Rehearsal breaks for bean bag mountain and Hank is buried in bean bags. — 00:01:21

“I don't wanna know about the world anymore!”

  • Hank points out his VidCon badge has higher clearance than John's; John replies. — 00:01:47

    “To me, that represents progress.”

  • Very thirsty backstage, Hank eyes the drinks. — 00:01:57

“it's very difficult for me to drink these drinks because I know how much they cost, but I'm doing it anyway.”

  • John says Hank's ability to come up with and execute new ideas astonishes him, and Hank says aww. — 00:02:40

“but not in a good way really, more in an overwhelmed way, so don't say awww.”
